Darkear thought for a minute then meowed, "It was near the river." His ears pricked up as he saw Littleflower's head pop out of the nursery, followed by Mudkit and Mistkit. He greeted his mate with a nod, then turned back to Fadedstar.

"The river..." He said with a nod. "Did the scent seem to lead anywhere?"

Darkear looked at Littleflower. "Um. It stopped right at the river, sir." he meowed, turning his gaze to Fadedstar, "We think they may have went in the river." He nodded then sat down, wrapping his tail around his forepaws.

"So they were on our territory and escaped through the river..." He said with a nod. "Alright then, keep an eye out for any signs that they may have hunted or anything on our territory. I will bring this up at the next Gathering.." He stood and stretched a little. "Thank you Darkear." He nodded to the deputy and turned away, heading back to his den.

Darkear nodded then turned to leave. Then he remembered and called out to Fadedstar, "Wait! One of the other warriors found rabbit bones, sir. They must have been hunting on our territory." Littleflower came over with Mudkit and Mistkit behind her. "Well, it has been quite cold in AshClan, Darkear. Their prey may be scarce." she meowed, sitting down next to Darkear, followed by Mudkit and Mistkit. Darkear thought for a second then meowed, "Yes, but that's no reason for them to be hunting here, Littleflower!" Littleflower nodded.

Fadedstar stopped and turned to face Darkear and walked back towards him. "Thats right Littleflower. Their prey may be scarce, but prey is just as scarce here, and that is for a good part of the year. They have survived leaf-bares before and can do it again without our prey." He said flatly.

Littleflower shuffled her paws, then rubbed her flank against Darkear's. She padded back into the nursery, motioning with her tail for her kits to follow. Darkear was confused for a second at why she was upset, but then he meowed, "Sorry, Fadedstar. She just feels bad for others a lot."

Darkear nodded and meowed, teasingly, "She can easily get mad, too!" He regretted saying that for Littleflower was standing a tail-length away, he eyes full of sadness. Why did I say that? he thought, watching Littleflower run off.

Fadedstar looked to his deputy and then to his retreating mate. "Go to her Darkear and apologize. If you need someone to watch the kits I would be more than happy." He said, dismissing his deputy with a flick of his tail towards the queen.
