Graystar is a longhaired gray tom with green eyes. He has the dark red nose of his father, which is a rather distinctive trait of his. His plume of a tail is white-tipped, while his paws are also white. He walks with a limp, courtesy of his exiled brother Claw. Overall, he is a rather handsome tom.

Graystar wasn't always the way he is now. He was once a determined leader of AshClan, but that all changed one day when his mother and father were both killed by his brother. Graystar used to love his brother, but not now, since now he is an exile. This has left Graystar lonely and depressed. He would be a lot of fun to be around if he wasn't so lonely.

Graystar was born to the senior warrior of AshClan, a she-cat by the name of Willowclaw. Graystar, then Graykit, had a brother named Blackkit. Their father, Duststripe was the deputy of AshClan, which the two brothers were always proud of. When they were apprenticed, Willowclaw mentored Blackpaw, but Duststripe mentored Graypaw. This left Blackpaw a little jealous of his brother, since he got to train with his father, the deputy of AshClan, while Blackpaw had to train with his grumpy old mother. Eventually, Blackpaw started to slack off in his training, which made Graypaw a warrior before Blackpaw could.
Graypaw, then Graywind was really proving himself to be a great warrior. So when Duststripe had to retire as an elder, Graywind was chosen as the deputy. Graywind couldn't help but rub it in at Blackpaw, who had become the warrior Blacktail. This really annoyed Blacktail, so one day, in an act of wild rage, he attempted to kill Graywind. However, Duststripe got into the battle and tried to get Blacktail off of his son, only to receive a fatal wound himself. After Graywind was badly hurt, Blacktail turned on Willowclaw, who was trying to defend Graywind and Duststripe. She died too, killed by Blacktail, who then desperately tried to kill other cats. At this point, Graywind was at the point of dying, but StarClan managed to save him, because the leader of AshClan was losing her last life. If Graywind died, Blacktail would have taken over.
Blacktail didn't even have to be exiled from the Clan. He ran away, becoming a rogue by the name of Claw. Graywind received his nine lives a day later, and has been leader ever since.

"You can't tell me what to do! You may be the deputy, but you're still my younger brother–"
Graywind turned around, alert. What was going on with Blacktail? Graywind could hear the dark gray tom's claws sliding out of their sheath.
"Blacktail, how's this going to end?" the deputy asked. Before Blacktail could answer, he pounced, pinning Graywind down. The two brothers wrestled for a moment, and that was when Graywind realized it was no game. His brother was... was trying to kill him. He was already attempting to score his claws along Graywind's throat.
"S-stop it!" Graywind yowled, but Blacktail wasn't listening, until Graywind felt another cat coming into the battle. It was Duststripe, trying to separate Blacktail, who was getting desperate, clawing at Graywind's chest. Blood flowed freely from the deputy's wounds, while Blacktail only had a few cuts here and there.
Blacktail turned around, noticing how Duststripe was trying to get him off of Graywind. The dark gray tom nudged Graywind to the other side of the clearing, because the deputy appeared to be dead. Blacktail then tried to attack Duststripe, but he was too slow. He pinned Blacktail down, but Blacktail delivered a sharp wound to his throat, which left the elder reeling.
Behind all this was Willowclaw, staring in awe at her own son, who had just killed her mate and son.
